Used Breast Pumps - for the most part - No.
OK, we all have
heard that your never supposed to use someone else's breast
pump let alone buy a used one. But, a quick glance on eBay
and we know that many, many used breast pumps are being sold. Basically,
personal electric pumps are not to be shared with others.
It seems that
many people will purchase a used breast pump and simply steralize
the parts that come into contact with the breast. This is
just not good enough - especially for a pump designed for
home use. Certainly, borrowing a trusted friends pump may
not seem like a risk, but purchsing one from an online aution
where you have no idea of who or how many people used it before
is a dangerous practice. Even cleaning or buying new parts
is not enough. During the pumping cycles milk can become aerosolized.
This vapor can enter the pumping mechanism and contaminate
the system. Changing parts will not eliminate this risk
