How much milk will you pump?

This is asked all the time. Unfortunatly, the simple answer is "every woman is different". I know that is a lame answer, but it really is the truth. The good news is there are things you can try to do to increase your milk supply.

I pumped on average 3oz to 4oz per breast for my 3 children. There were times that I pumped so much that I had to change bottles mid pump. I was fortunate as many friends and people I know really struggle with producing a couple of ounces from each breast. Here are some suggestions that many women find helpfull to increase milk supply.

Pump on a regular basis. I used a Medela breast pump and never had a problem with the pump. Staying consistant with the pump time is critical.

Drink plenty of fluids (water).

Get plenty of rest

Mothers Milk Tea

Eat Oatmeal

Brewers Yeast

Snack often on foods rich in protein and calcium.

Herbal suppliments include: Fenugreek, Blessed Thistle and Alfalfa. You can mix and match the herbs to see which one or combination works best for you.

Lastly, there is a prescription drug called Reglan (Metoclopramide) that is sometimes prescribed to women with low milk supply.
