Medela Pump In Style - Advanced
Updated for 2009, the Pump In Style Advanced Breast Pump has all the same great features as the original plus some new, thoughtful additions. The pump comes in a roomy, newly designed shoulder bag with an integrated pump motor. Plus, you get a matching removable cooler and ice pack that chills milk for up to 12 hours. Also new: This model allows you to toggle between two pumping modes for a gentler transition, using a revolutionary technology that mimics your baby's nursing pattern: Let-down Mode simulates your baby's initial rapid suckling for faster milk flow; Expression Mode mimics your baby's slower, deeper suckling for maximum milk flow in less time. It also comes with an AC adapter and battery pack, so you have two ways to use your pump: battery power or plugged into an electrical outlet. Pump In Style Advanced - Shoulder Bag

The Medela
Pump in Style Advanced model is the latest offering from
Medela. It's claim to fame is the Natural
Expression technology that it partly shares from the Symphony
breast pump.
Natural Expression (on the Advanced) is a one size fits
all.
- You have no choice but to use the Natural Expression with
the advanced. Medela does not include seperate pump speed
and vacuum control dials like it does on it's other pumps.
- the Natural Expression is on a 2 minute timer. If let-down
occurs sooner you can't easily stop the first part of the
Natural Expression. This may cause the mother to not pump
the hind milk.
- Quality control does not seem to be as good as it is with
the Original or the Traveler. We have a good number of mother's
call us to complain about some part of the Advanced model
not working right. The good news is that Medela is a good
company and has either replaced or otherwise solved each
problem to the satisfaction of our customers.
- The Pump in Style Advanced is pricey. Especially when
you understand how to better replecate the Natural Expression
by using either the Original or the Pump in Style Traveler.
Medela is a class
act and will stand behind their product. If you feel you need
the Natural Expression technology and price is not much of
an object - go for the Symphony. It is a much better pump
for many reasons than the Medela Advanced.
If you want an affordable pump that can
be hand tuned so that it performs in a similar fashon to the
Advanced verson of Natural Expression then take a long hard
look at the Original or the Traveler breast pumps. It is hard
to go wrong with either of the two (we have a slight preference
for the Traveler).
