Here is a short article on the benefits of breast feeding. While they don't mention Medela breast pumps (or any name brands specifically) they do point out that breast pumps are needed by many mothers.

It will combine their expresser technology with a more powerful pumping action which should make them the fastest to acheive let-down.

At this time, Ameda and Whittlestone are the best alternatives to the Medela breast pump. Ameda, in our opinion, is actually a better breast pump that the Medela. Just the fact that Ameda does not allow milk or bacteria to back up into the tubes or pump ( Medela does not have an FDA approved method of preventing this on their Pump In Style models) gives them our vote.
