NOTE: A new Advanced model has been recently released by Medela. This model may be much better than the first release model. We will be looking into it. The review on this page may be revised shortly.

Our top priority is customers' satisfaction. If you are not happy with the products, we are not happy either. So, we want you to be fully informed and educated before you invest your money in our product.

The Dual phased pumping philosophy (Natural Expression) which Medela introduced to the market early this year in the hospital grade breast pump Symphony was indeed a significant innovation to the breast pumping industry. Over six months in the market, the Symphony has proven that it is no doubt the best breast pump possible out there.

Medela then incorporated this new technology into the Pump In Style series- its most popular electric personal breast pumps- and also in the manual pump Harmony.

The Pump In Style Advanced with this new Natural Expression technology came out early August this year and it took the market by the storm. Everyone wants to buy it, everyone sells it.. However, the question is: Is it really worth the extra 25% in price that everyone is paying?

Many breastfeeding mothers (our customers and nursing moms who are our "testers") who used the Advanced AND previously the Pump In Style Original Or traveler, have said this to us:

The Pump In Style Advanced is truly a step more advanced than other breast pumps, but nothing it can do that the Pump In Style Original and the Pump In StyleTraveler cannot do. WHY? Please continue to read for detail explanation.

The only thing that separates the Pump In Style Advanced from other Pump In Style series is its "one touch let-down" button. This button allows the motor to switch automatically to a light and fast phase of pumping. Users should use this feature at the beginning to mimic babies' initial suckling pattern to stimulate the milk let down. Once the milk let-down (milk ejection reflex) comes, this phase needs to be de-activated and the pump returns to normal pumping just like the Pump In Style Original and Pump In Style Traveler (they all share the same mechanics).

Every baby starts out with rapid and light suckling to stimulate mother's milk let down and then changes to the long, deep feeding cycle to extract milk. However, every baby has a different speed and pressure within each phase. Not like the Symphony that has the program key card that personalizes each baby's nursing style, the Pump In Style Advanced has a "one size fit all" one-touch let down button. Some moms found itperfect, some found it too fast and light compares to the baby's, some found that the speed is right but the pressure is not enough, etc.

This one-touch let down button which cost additional $50 to $100 more can be replaced AND improved easily by using the two knobs that control speed and vacumm power. These two knobs are featured on all three Pump In STyle series. Users just simply increase the speed to highest setting and vacuum power to lower setting.

Because of this, those who experienced both pumps (Original And advanced) believe that the manual adjustment is a better choice because you can obtain the optimal setting that is most close to your baby's suckling. So, once the Natural Expression philosophy is understood, they rather manipulate the vacuum and speed control knobs to achieve the result, AND save money!
