What You Need to Know Before Purchasing
a Breast Pump -
We have been helping nursing mothers
select the best breast pumps for thirty years. This
is the experiencewe would like to pass on to you.
Read the following if you would
like to learn which breastpump promotes and supports
breastfeeding. You need to understand each pump, its
dynamics and its manufacturer's background and its manufacturers
philosophy. Why would the manufacturers philosophy
be useful? Read #1 for an idea...
1- If you want to be successful
at breastfeeding, stear away from breastpumps that are
manufactured by formula companies. To many people it
seems their goal is to make breastfeeding/pumping a
unpleasant and painful experience. This can discourage
mothers from breastfeeding or pumping and send them
looking for alternatives: formula feeding.
2- A dual pump is always more
efficient than a single. It cuts pump time down
in half and helps ensure a high milk supply. The milk
is extracted as much as being nursed by twins. Since
milk production is a supply/demand balancing process,
the body automatically increase milk production to meet
the body's demand. They more you pump - the more milk
your body will try to produce.
3- Hospital grade pumps are by
far the best pumps available. However, not everyone
is willing to pay the high cost. To compromise between
price and quality, most manufacturers offer dual nursing
pumps that sells from $80 to $350. Most mothers who
plan to pump every day find these pumps their best choice.

Medela Freestyle NEW PUMP The convenience of using the Freestyle can't be overlooked. According to Medela reps the Freestyle is just as rugged as the Pump In Style Advanced and yet can be used while you're driving the car!
Iowa Woman Tries to Sell Her Breast Milk for $200
...Heller said her freezer is overflowing with breast milk she has pumped since August. Her 4-month-old daughter won't drink from a bottle and the supply is piling up.
Back To Work Clothes
OK, I have heard from many mothers that are returning to work that they are shocked by how their business/work clothes no longer fit. They are also caught off-guard with the additional expense. I happen to live close to a Talbots outlet store and purchase all my clothing from the outlet. It's nice getting designer clothing at a deep discount. Follow that link to Talbots online outlet section. You won't believe how cheap the clothes are compared to regular prices. Note - I have not been paid to promote Talbots. I simply want to share one of my life tips.
New Breastfeeding Study for Working Mothers
"Breastfeeding at work is toughest for younger moms and retail workers." This is the results of a new survey by the not-for-profit National Women's Health Resource Center (NWHRC)
and Medela, Inc. that reveals 32 percent of new mothers give up breastfeeding less than seven weeks
after returning to work because of significant barrier.>>> Survey of working moms.

It looks like the National Pork Board apologized for the offensive comments directed at the work-at-home mother mentioned below. Good show.
Big Pork vs The Other White Milk
The National Pork Board is threatening to sue a work-at-home mother that runs a blog site about breastfeeding. Apparently she has used the phrase "the other white milk". The idiot pork people think everyone is as dumb as they are and that we will confuse breast milk with: Pork, the Other Garbage Eating Animal

Using a Breast Pump in Public
Lately, I have been reading some news articles that speak about numerous injustices towards mothers who are trying to pump in a public location. In most of these articles there is the hurried mother being challenged or denied access to use her pump. Here is an easy solution - use the battery pack that comes with the better quality breast pumps. All the Medela breast pumps come with a battery pack. So, buy some AA batteries, install the battery pack and be prepared for an emergency situation.

Natural Expression has a new name.Medela has been offering Natural Expression on some of their pumps for a few years now. It seems the name wore itself out. 2-Phase Expressionฎ is now the correct term.
Medela Dealer Prices We have been asked why we only have the Ameda dealer prices on our site and not Medela. To be honest, we didn't have a good reason other than we were just too busy. Well, we found the time...
Medela sells a lot of their pumps through distributors and these distributors sell directly to many individual dealers so pricing may vary. Prior to Medela moving to a distributorship business model the price list was set. Click here to view dealer prices for these expensive pumps.
New - Limited Edition Pump In Style Advanced
This hard to find pump has a redesigned bag that is larger and makes it easier to remove the pump and pump components. While the pump can be removed and comes with it's own mini-bag and carrying handle for ultra portability, I'm not convinced that making it this easy to remove the pump is a good thing. Can you imagine going somewhere and needing to use the pump only to discover that your 3 year old had removed it to play? Or, worse yet - you simply remove and forget it.
Some women will like this pump because it does have more room and comes in two trendy colors.
If you don't plan on removing the pump components and the standard professional black works for you - don't bother spending the extra money.
Ameda Price Increase
A few months ago Ameda increased the cost of Purely Yours pumps to their dealers.
Prior to this, the Purely Yours pumps from Ameda were the best value available for a basic, daily use pump. Now, their prices are much closer to what dealers charge for a (better) Medela pump. With an Ameda CarryAll and a Medela Original at nearly the same price - the choice is obvious to those in the industry. More on this later. For those who missed it - here are the OLD DEALER PRICES
for the Ameda pumps.
Medela MicroSteam Bags
I have to admit - I have always had a sneaky feeling that the Micro Steam bag from Medela were a rip-off. A marketing ploy to seperate us from our money for a useless product. I was wrong. I had my fourth child in late February and decided to give the steam bags a try since I had a dozen or so boxes laying around. The bags resemble any plastic-type of bag you may have encountered, but I am thinking it may be lined with something to help the microwaves stay inside the bag as it gets HOT after just 2 minutes. Here is my routine - after pumping I quickly rinse off the shields, bottles and nipples and throw them into the steam bag. Add 4oz water, time it at 2 minutes 30 seconds with power level high and walk away. I have to say I'm impressed. Over the years I've found many excuses to be upset at the Medela way, but I think they have a winner with the bags. If you buy them you'll notice the instructions say 2oz water and just a few parts, but I doubled the water and stuffed the bag and everything works the same - except it saves me time and maybe money as I don't use the bags as often so they *should* last longer.
How is breast milk made?
- Initially, hormones control when milk production begins, but once it has begun, the frequency that you pump has the greater impact on milk production.
Let-down problems at work
- Some women have great difficulty pumping at work. It's just not that easy to go from building actuarial matrixes to hooking yourself up to a breast pump. You can almost feel like your in a race - how fast can I pump? Often, let-down doesn't happen and you're left going back to work frustrated, worried about your milk supply AND stuck very uncomfortable engorged breasts. How can you achieve a faster let-down? Read on...
Building Your Business
- Many (most?) breast pump dealers are working from home and find the extra income to be a huge help for the family. We are going to explore techniques that can move you from selling 2 pumps per month to having an actual business that may sell 60+ pumps and accessories each month. Our first article is on third party order fulfillment - These companies take your products from warehouse shelves, pack them, hand them to shippers and then send an e-mail to your customers to let them know their packages have been shipped.
- The always-a-good-choice PIS Original
has had new life built upon it. With a removable cooler pack,
new fabric and a redesign to the bag - it seems likely that
it will continue to be the best buy from Medela.
Most expensive sites to buy a Medela pump
We thought is would be interesting
to list some of the more expensive
websites that sell the Medela pumps. This idea came about
after we noticed that Medela promotes some of the more expensive
places to purchase their pumps.
Medela inconsistent with online dealers.
Medela launched a new distribution
policy in January -- "Regarding Internet Sales: In order
to maintain Medela's premium brand image, effective January
1, 2005, Medela has unilaterally adopted the policy that it
will not conduct business with anyone who resells or lists a
price for Pump In Style® Original models #57040 and #57042
on the Internet. Effective February 1, 2005, this Policy will
include all Pump In Style models.
Medela's distribution Policy applies to all Medela customers,
except that, a select group of Medela dealers will not
be included in the Internet Sales portion of this policy."
(bold added)
This policy has frustrated a great many dealers that were
left out of the "Medela Friends and Family program"
- meaning they are not allowed to show their prices. Since
some of the best prices are available from dealers who are
not allowed to display their own prices - We have done it
for YOU! Hidden
breast pump prices.
Medela vs Dealers...
We keep hearing about dealers that
have been banned by Medela from selling pumps. It appears that
Medela would rather have their retailers selling pumps for $300
than $220. They must feel it is better for their image to be
known as selling expensive breast pumps...too bad for the
mother.
Interesting Discussion on the new policy...
On our new forum the first topic
is on the new policy that everyone is talking about. This
policy effects everyone - especially the end consumer. Click
for the discussion.
Medela Dealers Wanted
We have been contacted by online retailers
who are looking for authorized dealers to partner with. If you're

Quick tip for cleaning your breast pump
parts
For quick "on the go"
cleaning squirt a little dish washing soap into a large
ziplock bag (gallon size) and keep it folded in your
bag. When you need to clean some parts put them into
the bag, add hot water, then rinse and dry.
Medela also makes the Quick Clean Anti-Bacterial Wipes.
They are fast and work well, but they are also pricey.
24 wipes will run you $10 at most of the discount web
sites.
